My GF (31) and I (33) have a book club where we read a book each month with which we try to expand each other's understanding in a subject that feels important to us and our relationship. For example, my last pick was In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Maté, because I wanted to help her understand my struggle with addictions. Her last choice was Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez because she wanted to explain why women are so pissed all the f**cking time (in her words). 😀

Now I'm looking for the right book on the topic of slowing down, meditation, living in the present. This idea came to mind because I noticed we both have a tendency to optimize our everyday life. It seems like we're always working towards achieving the next goal, whether thats career oriented, weight loss, and even in the space of hobbies we like to measure everything. We measure our macros, our sleep quality, heck even rating our watched movies has become an obsession. I'd like to take a step back from the never ending race for productivity and optimization and focus more on the here and now.

    • My first intuition was to look for something related to meditation and buddhism. In that regard I came across Why buddhism is True by Robert Wright.
    • I also found Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee, which sounds like a more practical, secular approach to the issue.
    • 10% Happier by Dan Harris seems popular but I'm not sure if it's suitable for a good conversation starter.

What do you think about these books and are there any other books in this subject that you would recommend? Highly appreciate any suggestions!
