Hey y'all, I just finished reading 'Flesh Eater' by Travis M. Riddle which is an adult 'fantasy' novel. It features an entire cast/world of anthropomorphic characters (including the MC), I use the descriptor Fantasy loosely, as it features some amazing genre mashing and inventive world building that is plain weird, but works really well.

There is queer romance too, that is handled tastefully, it felt almost Homo-Romantic/Asexual in how it was portrayed, I thought was pretty cool and refreshing. Some elements of the writing made me think of Becky Chambers and her wayfarer series (which has non-human/alien characters, interspecies relationships and even a MC that is an AI – where you see things from the AI's point of view as they try and integrate into regular society;humans and organic aliens).

Bit long-winded but any way I'm looking for fiction with anthropomorphic characters – which basically means any non-human. Riddle's novel had anthropomorphic animals without it being 'furry fiction', although I welcome furry fiction if anyone has some recommendations with solid writing – I'm fine with books that are heavily LGBTQ or erotic or books that are non- gratituitous. I also welcome speculative fiction and hard scifi, epic & cozy fantasy and horror.

I'm not looking for stuff like Redwall, Watership down, Silverwing, Firebringer, The Sight, Golden compass, Eragon, warrior cats, etc – which are written for YA (and aside from warrior cats I read as a child), Animal Farm I've read, too. Ideally books written in the last 25 years or so, if that helps.

I've read children of time, Dragon's egg, Rendezvous with Rama, A fire upon the deep, Dawn (Octavia Butler), The mountain in the sea, Some Iain Banks, Some Neal Asher and Robin Hobb, all of which are great!

I'll also take Recs for graphic novels and Manga, too! Stuff like Blacksad, Beastars, Berserk, Ramen Wolf and Curry Tiger work!

    Thanks everyone!

Under the Skin by Michel Faber. The main character is an alien who looks basically like a dog in her original form, but she surgically removes everything that makes her look like an animal to pass as human.
