I’m looking for a book that will genuinely leave me feeling hollow. I loved The Young Elites by Marie Lu and especially Adelina’s downward spiral how she keeps making worse choices but you fully understand why and you’re wishing she’d stop.
I’m specifically after:
– a strong anti-heroine
– a gradual moral decline (not sudden)
– being misunderstood or shaped by her circumstances
– emotional moments where things could have gone differently
– no HEA (I want it to hurt)
I want Fmc to have moments of “what have I done?”
Romance is welcome, especially if it adds to the tragedy (e.g. love that comes too late or can’t save her).
This is probably super niche, but i want the feeling of songs like Born to Die by Lana Del Rey or Take Me to Church by Hozier not necessarily the lyrics but the feeling of inevitability, intensity and devastation.
