Some recent books I’ve read and enjoyed include Tenth of December by George Saunders, Naked by David Sedaris, Ada or Ardor by Nabokov, also Pale Fire by Nabokov, and Tar Baby by Toni Morrison. I’ve never read anything else by Toni Morrison and I think what I loved the most about Tar Baby was the lush, luxurious setting and figurative language + descriptions of intense love and obsession. Some of these aspects are also found in the two Nabokov books. I enjoy books with darkly humorous aspects, I guess? And there are many sentences by Nabokov that make you do a double take with their complexity and beauty. Okay, having said all this, what novel should I read next? I like to get engrossed in a plot. An example of a book I do not love was Trust by Hernan Diaz; I thought it was kind of a snooze fest. I like Russian and American authors and have little experience with anything else

    1. Maybe “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt. I found it to be extremely engrossing.
