Some of my favourite novels are by Japanese authors (Norwegian Wood, Coin Locker Babies, Out to name a few) and I'm a huge fan of City Pop (western influenced music made during Japan's economic bubble in the 70's/80's) and I would really love to read something that either was written in or is set in/evokes this era (or all of the above).
The most prolific books by Japanese authors are either older (anything from Soseki to Mishima) or more recent (Banana Yoshimoto onward) so it's a bit of a blind spot for me, and one I'm sure I'd enjoy! Please suggest any genre so long it has a decent English translation that's available in the UK
