Nothing against US and England obviously but I think we're all pretty familiar with authors coming from there. What I want are authors and books from countries we don't really see much recommendations for. I was actually even considering throwing in Russia and Japan in here given the popularity of writers like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Murakami etc. but maybe we can get some unique recs for these countries.
But who I want to hear from are people from countries whose literature we have little familiarity with. Give me book suggestions by writers from Iran or Romania or Senegal or Thailand or Bolivia or something.

Not an Australian, but The Black Magician series by Trudi Canavan, The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, and the Jelindel Chronicles by Paul Collins are great fantasy reads.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
