24m. I’m looking for something strange and mysterious to read. I’ve enjoyed listening to H.P Lovecraft stories, traditionally I like fantasy books (ASOIAF, LOTR, Name of the wind) but I’m in more of a dark mood. I want a book to physically read rather than listen to. I’m okay with Dark and disturbing, right now I’m curious about House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski but I’ve heard it’s very intense so I’m not sure.
I’m looking to get back into reading, so it’s important that it hooks me and is not crazy long. It’s doesn’t have to be horror or fantasy that’s just what I usually read.
Thank you for any suggestions.

You might try Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. It’s a dark academia fantasy.
house of leaves is intense and voluntarely hard to read (if you are not used to multiple points of views and scientific-ish reports) but IMO worth the try. But I think that this book, for getting back into reading, is a bit too overwhelming. Kafka on the shore (not exactly dark but…) from Haruki Murakami. story catches you immediately, magic realism serves beautifully the story, characters are amazing.
