I just finished “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” (I unfortunately hated the ending) and now looking for similar vibes. I loved the build up of dread where something feels off, the main character notices it, but they keep rationalizing it and staying/continuing anyway. Another example of the feeling I am looking for is “We Used to Live Here”. Books where we as the reader are thinking “why are you still going along with this???”

check out bentley little. everyday locations/things that turn out to be not that.
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
Never Whistle at Night by Shane Hawk etc is an indigenous horror anthology and I would say at least half of the stories are giving “why are you still going along with this???”
Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman is another horror that was popular a couple years ago that was peak this vibe.
Delight in the Blood by KR Rose, vampire gets an indentured servant who starts to get suspicious.
“Play Nice” by Rachel Harrison fits in here, its a play on the typical haunted house story.
“The Compound” by Aisling Rawle also feels appropriate.
The September House by Carissa Orlando
