My late-70s dad loves reading and loves dogs. I found him some books by Spencer Quinn and he’s been super into them. Can anyone suggest other books that would scratch the dog love, senior reader itch? A couple things:
– can’t be upsetting
– can be complex and philosophical
– curious incident.. and 15 dogs are both on my radar
– would also welcome movie recs that meet the criteria!
Thanks in advance!

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Dog Songs by Mary Oliver. [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17707772-dog-songs](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17707772-dog-songs) I own and love this book and have gifted it as well. She does write about her feelings of her dog’s death, but it’s done in such a beautiful, heart warming way. I suppose you might want to preview before you gift to your dad.
James Herriot series? He’s a vet who wrote about the animals he worked with and their owners
Boy by Peter Mayle: life in the south of France from the POV of the aurhor’s dog
The James Herriot books would be great, if he hasn’t already read them. There’s a compendium of just dog stories, too.
Farley Mowat’s Never Cry Wolf is terrific too.
Being a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz
Craig and Fred
The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be by Farley Mowat
Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck
