i am CRAVING some lesbian lit that has a happy ending, and the characters are actually in an explicit relationship. no subtext!!!! also im not into sci fi, fanstasy, etc. i am just looking for some good classic lesbian books to match the amount of books i read abt gay men lol. i love mary renault, e m forster, captive prince trilogy, torrey peters, as meat loves salt by maria mccann

Sarah Waters’ books are a little more recent than what you’re asking for, but are popular older sapphic novels. Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown is a lesbian classic novel, but I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t confirm that it has a happy ending.
