Hello! Looking for classic literature (or ideally pre-1970’s) that doesn’t feel like you’re eating unsalted vegetables. Looking for page turners but with depth and good characters but also not super duper bleak or dense. Some hits and misses listed below.
Books I’ve read that have fit the bill:
Cats Cradle
East of Eden
Handmaids Tale (I know not pre 70’s)
Books that I forced myself/trudged through:
A Clockwork Orange
Brave New World
The Secret Garden
Books that I couldn’t stomach:
Anna Karenina (couldn’t keep track of all the names lol)
Brothers Karamazov (maybe it’s just something with Russian lit? lol)
