Love a good creepy and spooky story, not at all into slashers/monsters/thrillers. Think more like haunted houses, creeping dread, eerie noises… It feels like 95 percent of scary stories turn into goofy thrill rides once the ghost/monster/villain is revealed. Help me find the other 5%!
Books I've loved with this vibe: Haunting of Hill House, Wylding Hall, House of Leaves. Movies that scratch that itch: Lake Mungo, Devil's Backbone, The Shining (though notably I didn't like the book), The Others
