i am CRAVING some lesbian lit that has a happy ending, and the characters are actually in an explicit relationship. no subtext!!!! im not into sci fi, fanstasy, etc. i am just looking for some good classic lesbian books to match the amount of books i read abt gay men lol. i love mary renault, e m forster, captive prince trilogy, torrey peters, as meat loves salt by maria mccann
some lesbian books i've already read: rubyfruit jungle, alison bechdel, patience and sarah by isabel miller, the price of salt by patricia highsmith, cassandra at the wedding, carmilla, the mercies by kiran millwood hargrave, jeanette winterson
some lesbian lit i already have on my tbr: the gilda stories, olivia by dorothy strachey, sarah waters
ik im very picky about what kind of lesbian lit i want, so thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some good recs! <333

definitely check out maureen duffy’s “the microcosm” from 1966 – it’s set in london’s lesbian underground and has actual explicit relationship stuff, not just hints. also “odd girl out” by ann bannon from the pulp era is surprisingly good for something from late 50s, way more direct than you’d expect.
if you can find “desert of the heart” by jane rule (1964), that one’s solid too. the relationship development feels real and it doesn’t do that tragic ending bullshit that was so common back then. these older books can be harder to track down but worth hunting for in used bookstores or library systems.
