Adult Fiction with a strong, continuous plot (No YA, Sci-Fi, or Comedy). Similar to ‘The Stand’, ‘The Road’, or movies like ‘Se7en’, ‘Shutter Island’ and ‘Gone Girl’ for example.

I am looking for new books I might enjoy. Broadly I am looking for fictional stories that are not Young Adult and not set in Sci-fi (I have enough books for now of sci-fi) or are very humorous (don't enjoy Dungeon Crawler Carl or Project Hail Mary for example) and are written in the last \~40 years. Nothing against those books in particular just doesn't translate very well for me personally from a book.

I did enjoy "The Stand", "The Road", the expanse Series, Red Rising Saga, I have a lot of the big series in Sci-fi and really want to branch out.

I like a really good plot that progresses over the course of the book or series (I don't like detective series/books that are basically case of the book books) with an immersive world and good developed characters.

Maybe I could point out movies that I enjoyed that I could imagine that I would have enjoyed as a book maybe:

shawshank redemption, Inception, Seven, Leon the professional, shutter Island, gone girl, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Cast Away, the last samurai.

I know that some movies are based on books but if I have seen the movie I want something new recommended.

Those are the ones that come up at the top of my head.
