I’m mostly an audiobook listener (ADHD and physical books don’t always click), and I’m looking for something that has a strong sense of place and a bit of emotional depth.

I love things like LOTR for the world-building and immersion, but also books like Desert Solitaire for the quieter, reflective side.

Open to anything that feels like a good mix of:

    • strong setting/atmosphere

    • character-driven or introspective

    • something you can just get lost in for a while

Bonus if it’s especially good in audiobook format.

    1. I listened to the audiobook of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and really enjoyed it. Great world building and one of the first dystopic books published.

    2. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is a good one for this, a strange, unique, beautifully written little fantasy mystery novel that’ll stick with you. Excellent narration by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

For a great story that’s closer to epic fantasy, check out The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Either the American (Nick Podehl) or UK (Rupert Degas) narrator, they’re both top tier.

Or check out Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb, a beautifully written, emotionally deep, melancholy, high fantasy story, the first of her epic series The Realm of the Elderlings.
