My favorite three books are:
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake
The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe
I was always able to read the short stories of:
Edgar Allen Poe, H P Lovecraft, Flannery O'Connor, Jorge Luis Borges
I don't like:
The House of Leaves or anything by David Foster Wallace or Haruki Murakami

Dude you’ve got some solid taste – Gene Wolfe is a masterclass in unreliable narrators and Gormenghast has that perfect decaying grandeur vibe. You should definitely check out Clive Barker’s Books of Blood or maybe The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, both have that dark literary horror thing going with incredible atmospheric worldbuilding that doesn’t get too meta or postmodern like teh stuff you mentioned avoiding
