I want to be emotionally moved by a novel like Stoner by John Williams but I also want to laugh or appreciate the author’s sense of dark humour like Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar.

Yeah, yeah. Everyone is obsessed with Stoner and I'm just another filthy casual reader, but it got me back into reading and I'm trying to branch out! I also recently read Convenience Store Woman and enjoyed the quirkiness of the main character, and perhaps books about work as I spend lots of time in a soul sucking corporate office. I'm a stand up comedian in my spare time so I'm also looking for novels that have interesting observations and ideas. Like Metamorphosis by Kafka. I feel like it's making me a better writer and observer of the world. I think my next read might be the Dungeon Crawler series, but what else do you have for me?!
