Hi! Im just now getting into reading again at 29 and last time i was reading a lot was highschool.
I remember really enjoying the Pendragon Series by DJ Machale. I dont know if this book is popular or nit but thought id mention it. Im also starting Harry Potter (love the movies)
Basically im a sucker for a very deep world. I really enjoy atmosphere and moments of high stakes and high tension. Im assuming re-reading Pendragon it might feel a little too YA or immature? For lack of a better word.
Basically IM looking for suggestions for fantasy but with darker, realer themes and tones. I really like darkness and seriousness in media in general. Dark is a show i enjoyed deeply. Game of thrones. Heroes the Show from the 2000s. Stuff that is fantastical but rooted in real human experience and emotion and stakes.
Sorry for long post, thank you!

I loved the Pendragon books too! Welcome back to reading. I read them a long time ago (the same age group as you) so I’m not certain about the viability of a re-read.
For an adult targeted fantasy story, you may want to try Brandon Sanderson. His Mistborn trilogy is a great, nicely paced book series. I believe he has other ones as well. He has a very long series, The Stormlight Archive, but that’s probably very ambitious at this point – save it for later!
Another option would be The Lies of Locke Lamora. It’s an entertaining read and fun. The rest of the series (books 2 and 3) aren’t quite as good but I enjoyed finishing the series.
