Looking for similar books that have a whole lot of family drama (that may venture into something scandalous/outrageous like kids imprisoned in an attic), realistic but villainous characters like a narcissistic grandmother, and maybe something soapy.

Peyton Place by Grace Metalious. It’s about a whole town, but it’s episodic New England gothic at its best. And it was adapted as a soap opera, although I can’t recommend it.
I’m pretty sure Franny & Zooey (by J.D. Salinger) has what you’re looking for.
