I’m going on a 7-day cruise soon and looking for some book recs, but I’m honestly not sure what vibe I want.

Part of me wants something light, fun, maybe even a little scandalous—easy to burn through while relaxing. But another part of me is tempted by something darker or more immersive. I think what I really want is a strong sense of adventure and escapism (which feels fitting for a cruise). Bonus points if it has an ocean/nautical setting.

For context, here’s what I’ve read recently:

    • Escape by Stephen Fishbach — 3/5

    • Recursion by Blake Crouch — 4.5/5

    • The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho — 2/5

    • All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr — 4.5/5

    • Pet Sematary by Stephen King — 4/5

Right now I’m about a quarter of the way through Hyperion by Dan Simmons and absolutely loving it.

I tend to gravitate toward sci-fi and horror, but I also really enjoy books that are emotional/impactful (not sure the best word—just something that sticks with you). I’m also trying to branch into mystery and classics (something like And Then There Were None is on my radar).

So yeah—open to anything that fits a “vacation read” vibe, especially if it leans adventurous or ocean-related. Would love to hear your recommendations!
