I’m looking for a book that stays with you long after you finish the last page. I feel like I’ve been reading a lot of "fast food" books lately, entertaining in the moment, but I forget the plot two days later. I want something that genuinely shifts your perspective or makes you see the world a little differently.

What is the one book that actually changed the way you think? I’m open to anything from fiction to philosophy, as long as it’s a total "brain reset."

    1. pitchfork-ish on

THE OVERSTORY by Richard Powers. Interconnected narratives (that come together) about trees, told in “tree time” instead of human time. I love how this book de-centers humans, and I seriously have so much more affection for trees after reading it, and that’s stuck with me for many years.

    2. I read Stranger in a Strange Land back when I was in high school. Definitely helped solidify how I thought about religion, logic and human relationships. Led me to other books by Heinlein. Didn’t wholly shape my opinions and thought processes, but definitely influenced them growing up.
