My friend’s kid is dyslexic and doesn’t particularly like reading, but I’m hoping to help her find some books that she can enjoy. My favorite genres to read are sci-fi and fantasy, and she has specifically told me she doesn’t like fantasy or unrealistic types of fiction, so I am struggling to think of books she might like. She mentioned she liked Roald Dahl’s writing style.

The view from Saturday by e.l. Konigsberg, Holes by Louis Sachar. Also consider anything by Kit Pearson (the sky is falling trilogy, the daring game, awake and dreaming)

I was a weird kid and reading Ellen Hopkins’ books around that age… which probably wouldn’t be considered appropriate, but your question got me thinking and I found [this](https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/novels-in-verse) list of novels written in verse that might be worth taking a look at for more age-appropriate fare.

I just remembered Freak the Mighty, written from the perspective of a kid with dyslexia. Whimsical in places, but grounded in reality. We read it in class when I was in 5th or 6th grade.
