Airplane Crashs, Sinking Ships, Stampedes – Pick your poison. Of course something like Krakauers “Into thin air” would count as well.

Isaac’s Storm by Erik Larson – history I knew nothing about before reading it. M

Command and Control by Eric Schlosser is about the 1980 Damascus Titan Missile explosion specifically, and more broadly about accidents involving American nuclear weapons. It’s a terrifying, but excellent read.

One of my favorite books ever is *Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America*, by John M. Barry. I also enjoyed *The Johnstown Flood,* by David McCullough.

Lol into thin air was my first thought. But Zeitoun is awesome

A handy man went around the aftermath of Katrina in a canoe and helped people. Really good book.

U fortunately I think the guy ended up in prison for some nasty shit. Still a good read

Wonder Drug: The Secret History of Thalidomide in America and Its Hidden Victims by Jennifer Vanderbes. A medical disaster caused largely by lobbying by the pharmaceutical industry. And as bad as it was, it was almost so much worse.

    12. I really enjoyed *Into Thin Air* about the disastrous 1996 climbing season on Mount Everest.
