I'm sure there a lot of other threads about this and I will check them out, but I thought I'd add mine to the pile anyways 🙂

I like strong characters that have believable development. References to fairytales or various myths and legends (especially obscure ones!) are also fun. Things I want to avoid in books are sex scenes and love triangles (especially if they go on for more than one book…please just pick someone or no-one).

    – I've tried Brandon Sanderson (have read Warbreaker, Mistborn, and Elantris) and I know he's a favourite for many people. I can definitely see the appeal, but I find his characters a little trite (or maybe just overly explained?) and have a hard time getting through the books because of it…I did like Elantris, though!

    – Does anyone know if the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb has sex in it? It looks like an interesting series and I haven't been able to find out if it's pretty clean or not.

    – I've also started reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown and the writing seems really good so far.

    For Reference:

    Fantasy Books I like are:

Licanius Trilogy and Hierarchy Series by James Islington

The Queen's Thief Series by Megan Whalen Turner

The Keepers Origins by JA Andrews

Lord of the Rings by Tolkien

The Blue Sword and Chalice by Robin McKinley

    Dragonback Series by Timothy Zahn

    Lighter/ younger fairytale inspired stories:

The Legendary Inge by Kate Stradling (I like most of her books for an easy/ cozy read)

Goose Girl and Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

Flight and Flame Trilogy by RJ Anderson

    Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

The Guardians Series by William Joyce

Oh, and also, I love The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.

Anyways, I'd love to hear some suggestions!
