You might want to check out the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella – it follows Becky through all her financial disasters and relationship drama, kind of like following a character through multiple TV seasons. Each book builds on the last one but you can still enjoy them standalone. The Plum series by Janet Evanovich is also great for this – Stephanie gets into these ridiculous situations as a bounty hunter and there’s ongoing romantic tension that carries through like 20+ books. I actually discovered both when I was browsing apartments online (don’t ask why I was reading reviews on a realtor’s blog) and someone mentioned how these series feel like comfort TV shows you can read. They’re perfect for when you want something episodic but in book form.
