I’ve been fascinated by how tarot and oracle decks aren’t just tools for fortune-telling, but gateways into psychology, storytelling, and symbolism. I’m looking for books that explore their history, their archetypes, or even teach how to read them in a thoughtful, modern way. Think Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom level insight, or books that unpack how these systems reflect human behavior and intuition.

Are there any hidden gems that give real depth to tarot or oracle practice, not just guides? Recommendations that make you think, reflect, or even spark a little awe are exactly what I’m after.

    1. jung’s man and his symbols touches on lot of the archetypal stuff that shows up in tarot without being specifically about cards. the collective unconscious concepts really click when you start seeing how major arcana mirrors those universal patterns

for actual tarot focused stuff rachel pollack’s other books beyond seventy eight degrees are worth checking. she gets into the psychological layers pretty deep
