I need inspiration and reference. I’m aiming to write a novel where a protag high schooler had a friend in middle school who supposedly died in an accident, but the protag is the only one who believes that there’s enough to suggest that she (the “deceased” friend) might actually still be out there.
I’d love any suggestions that tackle the idea of someone who’s still young and an amateur trying to investigate a missing person case that seems to be way out of their league.
It would especially help if the general consensus is that the person is dead and the protag is one of the only (if not THEE only) person who believes there’s still a chance. This isn’t a must-have for suggestions though, as I’d gladly take anything that’s at least touching the broad strokes of this idea.
There’s also a cosmic horror aspect to the story because the protag ends up accidentally tapping into an otherworldly sense, so if you happen to have any stories that happen to have a cosmic or mythical aspect to it, I’d gladly take it. However, that is not by any means a necessity here because I understand that’s getting VERY specific.
