I'm currently 30 years old, I used to love reading as a child/teen but haven't read any books in a long time. I've tried to get back into reading more adult geared fantasy books but the few I have tried have felt very complex with loads of characters, a massive world and just overall very heavy to jump into after a long reading break. I even tried to read A Song of Ice and Fire after being a big fan of the show but just still found them too heavy even knowing the characters and world already.
I am looking for something in the fantasy/sci fi genre that is approachable and easy to get into from the get go. I don't mind a long series of books, or one offs. I am not opposed to murder mystery/detective books either.
Just to add some of my history, as a teen I read and loved a lot of the popular YA books. My standout favorites being: Cirque Du Freak and Demonata by Darren Shan, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Spooks by Joseph Delaney, Power of Five by Anthony Horowitz and Gone by Michael Grant.
