ah nice to see someone diving into non-european geopolitics! i teach history so this is right up my alley 😄
for african stuff beyond rwanda, try “The Looting Machine” by Tom Burgis – it’s incredible how it breaks down resource extraction and power dynamics in modern africa. also “King Leopold’s Ghost” by Adam Hochschild is brutal but essential reading about congo
for chinese geopolitics, “On China” by Kissinger gives you the long view of how china thinks about power and relationships with other nations. bit dense but worth it
if you want something on middle east/arab world, “From Beirut to Jerusalem” by Thomas Friedman is getting bit dated now but still solid for understanding regional dynamics. and for russia, anything by Fiona Hill is gold – she really gets how putin’s regime works in global context
the machete book is rough read but so important for understanding how quickly things can spiral when ethnic tensions meet political manipulation 💀 what made you pick that one first?
