I’m interested in a book or two covering the history of colonization and continued exploitation of Africa. Preferably something that isn’t particularly dry. Let me know what’s out there. Thanks!

King Leopold’s Ghost is about the atrocities committed in the king’s gigantic private colony in the Congo, and the people who worked to expose the truth. The writing is really good.

    2. King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild covers what happened in the Belgian Congo to horrifying effect, if you can stomach it.

For the more recent consequences you could read Shake Hands with the Devil by Lt. Gen. Roméo Dallaire, about the Rwandan genocide and the response to it, or lack thereof. Another stomach churner, in addition to being very well written.

*How Europe underdeveloped Africa* and *Decolonial Marxism* by Walter Rodney

*Discourse on colonialism* by Aime Cesaire

*The darker nations* and *Washington bullets* by Vijay Prashad

*What is antiracism and why it means anticapitalism* by Arun Kundnani

    4. How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney is a good book and really puts to bed a lot of the common myths that people rely on to whitewash just how horrific colonialism was.
