Hey y'all, I love books featuring female characters confidently or gleefully disregarding social norms and/or socially-acceptable behavior. For example, I once read a short story where a young woman ends up shooting a taxidermied chinchilla with a flare gun. Think also of Annie Montrose (NASA's foul-mouthed, aggressive PR person in "The Martian"). Also Dr. Stratt (the woman who's been granted full legal authority and clemency to do anything she needs to do and break any laws to make the mission successful) and Ilyukhina (the engineer who is gleefully enthusiastic about dying to save Earth but wants to try heroine before she goes out), both from the "Project Hail Mary" book. (The characters act differently in the movie.)
If anyone has suggestions of other books with women ignoring social norms, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance!
