I'm looking for fantasy book recommendations for a friend. Woman in her early 30s.

Things she likes: Spiritual and celestial themes; think astrology, ancient Egypt cosmology, and the mystical side of stars, planets, and space in general. But not war sci-fi like Star Wars or Warhammer 40k (although she likes Dune) and nothing to do with mainstream religion.

Bonus points for any of the following:

    – Lost or ancient advanced civilisations

    – Alchemy

    – Panpsychism (The idea that consciousness exists and is fundamental in everything)

    – A general sense of connection to something above/beyond us.

Nothing too childish, she has no problems with reading things like The Silmarillion and Dune. It could be a standalone book or series.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

ooh she might dig the broken earth trilogy by n.k. jemisin – it’s got some wild geological consciousness stuff going on that totally fits the panpsychism vibe, plus ancient civilizations that were way more advanced than the current world

also check out the goblin emperor by katherine addison if she wants something a bit lighter but still has that mystical court intrigue thing, or maybe the priory of the orange tree which has this whole celestial dragon mythology woven through it

if she’s cool with some heavier philosophical stuff, the book of m by peng shepherd gets into memory and consciousness in ways that might scratch that itch too. the magic system is bizzare but in the best way
