Hey guys, I’m planning to start my literary fiction journey and would love some recommendations on where to begin.
I’m looking for books that are considered modern classics or essential literary fiction like strong prose, deep themes, character-driven stories, the kind of books that really shape your taste and thinking as a reader. I’m open to anything: contemporary, classic, philosophical, emotional, or experimental, as long as it’s widely regarded as great literary fiction.
If you were starting from scratch and wanted to build a solid foundation in literary fiction, what 3–5 books would you read first?

if i had to start from scratch i’d prob pick a mix that kinda shows u diff sides of literary fiction tbh… like Stoner is almost always my first rec bc it’s simple on the surface but hits insanely hard emotionally (like it sneaks up on u fr), then maybe Never Let Me Go by
