Hi guys! I hope all of your reading lists are overflowing.
I need some monsters. Or creatures.
What I'm NOT looking for is anything set in a fantasy world. I get on those kicks, but I'm not in the mood for it currently.
Just give me monsters and creatures set in the "real" world. Like somebody's just living their best life in South Carolina or something and BAM, next thing they know something ate the florist.
It can be horror meant to be taken seriously, it can be funny, I don't really care – I just want some monsters.
Thanks much!

Monstrilio (mother tries to bring back her dead child)
The Ritual (friends encounter a monster in the woods)
When The Wolf Comes Home (monster that manifests as what you are afraid of)
Those Across The River (southern gothic)
Between Two Fires (same author as above, a medieval knight and a little girl fight monsters in France during the plague)
The Haar (elderly Scottish lady finds a Mysterious Blob; quick and surprisingly wholesome)
Into The Drowning Deep (evil merpeople)
Devolution (Bigfoot)
Incidents Around The House (little girl sees a malevolent entity called Other Mommy)
World War Z (same author as devolution, zombie apocalypse)
The Sarvan (WWI, monster in the snowy mountains)
The Hollow Places (inspired by Blackwood’s The Willows, creepy deer monster)
The Sworn Soldier series by T Kingfisher. The 1st one is definitely the best but the other 2 are decent too
The House in the Cerulean Sea may fit the bill
if you want enjoyable b horror style monster novels check out Hunter Shea, he has tons of them. Montauk monster is a good place to start.
He who fights with monsters kind of would fit the bill. But not really?
