I know there are plenty out there, but I’m specifically looking for something about a woman somewhere around the 23-27 year range. I recently turned 25 and I feel like there’s a lot going on right now, especially with balancing relationships with family, friends, and my partner. At the same time, it feels like I’m making things bigger than they need to be, if that makes sense.

I’m looking for a combination of female madness/rage and coming-of-age. Bonus points if the main character is socially drained and not career-motivated. I don’t know if any books that are similar to my situation exist, but I hope I can read one. <3

    1. Love this genre! Not sure if they’re all *specifically* “madness” but all of these have the themes of womanhood and the pressures that come with it in “madness-vibe” ways:

-**The Stepford Wives** by Ira Levin. It’s a classic for a reason, it can also be knocked out in a day because it’s abrely over 100 pages. Can’t recommend it enough, it is foundational and also just a good read.

-**The Return** by Rachel Harrison is a murder mystery thriller where a group of adult women with long complicated friendships are in a spooky hotel after the disappearance of their friend. One of them is convinced the friend is still alive and I’d argue it’s to the point of near madness.

-**We Have Always Lived in the Castle** by Shirley Jackson is another classic that is also a fun read. Also a short one (150 pages) it is gothic and the main character is a fascinating POV. Can’t recommend enough.

-**All’s Well** by Mona Awad is one of my personal favorites. A drama teacher putting on Macbeth ends up being sucked into a surreal magical realism drama in which she herself is centered and completely swept away by.
