I am living in a country in which not many jews live so I am interested in this perspective. I read several memoirs and novels about people living in orthodox communities, but I am primarily looking for books that aren't about Judaism but about people who happen to be Jewish. This is would be my gold-star book. But I am happy about any recommendation that fits the brief "modern Jewish life in America", including memoirs.
