Hey guys! I’m planning to buy Crime and Punishment as a gift for a friend, but I’m stuck on choosing the translation.
She’s not really familiar with Russian literature, so I want to make sure she gets a good first impression and can actually enjoy it.
I know Oliver Ready and Larissa Volokhonsky / Richard Pevear are usually recommended, but they’re out of stock right now 😭
There’s one available edition by Paper Mill Classics, but it doesn’t mention the translator anywhere.
Does anyone know which translation they usually use?
Also, if it is Constance Garnett would that still be okay for a first-time reader, or would she miss some of the “Dostoevsky feel”?
Thanks for the help.
