Three Assassins by Kotaro Isaka was enjoyable.
The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey (first in the Perveen Mistry series)
The Shadow Walker by Michael Walters (first in the Inspector Nergui series)
[The Devotion of Suspect X](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8686068-the-devotion-of-suspect-x) is good.
And the [Judge Dee series](https://www.goodreads.com/series/50669-judge-dee-chronological-order) is interesting, it follows a crime-solving magistrate in seventh century China.
Walter Woon’s *The Advocate’s Devil* is Sherlock Holmes meets Bertie Wooster in colonial Singapore. Neil Humphreys’s *Marina Bay Sins* series and Ovidia Yu’s *Aunty Lee* series are also set in Singapore.
The Skull Mantra by Eliot Pattison – Inspector Shan Tao Yun insulted a high ranking official and he ended up being sent to a prison work camp in Tibet. While there Tibetan workers discover a headless body and the Inspector starts investigating what happened.
The Last Train by Michael Pronko. Trust me on this one! Best villian ever — think Uma Thurman in Kill Bill cranked up to 11!
The John Rain books by Barry Eisler are set in Japan.
