valley of the dolls absolutely nails this – jacqueline susann wrote it like she had dirt on everyone in hollywood and wasn’t afraid to spill it. gets super dark with the pills and backstabbing but the characters feel real instead of just glamorous cutouts
if you want something more recent, taylor jenkins reid does this whole thing really well – her books read like you’re watching some epic behind the scenes documentary about fictional stars
