I’ll be starting a new phase of my life in a few months as I step into the corporate world, and I want to make sure I’m mentally prepared for it.

I’m especially looking for book recommendations that can help with understanding people, navigating workplace dynamics, communication, and overall growth in a professional setting and talks about human psychology.

One book I already have in mind is The 48 Laws of Power I’ve heard mixed opinions about it. Some say it’s a must-read for understanding real-world power dynamics, while others feel it’s too manipulative. Would you recommend it for someone just starting out, or suggest something better?

Would really appreciate any recommendations that had a real impact on you in your early career. Thanks!

I’d be a bit careful with The 48 Laws of Power early on, it can feel a bit too manipulative without real-world context. You’re better off starting with something more practical like How to Win Friends and Influence People or Atomic Habits, they’re easier to apply and actually help with communication and growth in a real way.

I would definitely pass on 48 Laws of Power. I’m going to try to stay off my soap box but suffice to say that book is unlikely to set you up with realistic perspectives on most of the folks you’re going to interact with.

Ryan Leak’s How to Work With Complicated People is pretty good. Again, not everyone is going to fit into that category (thankfully) but it’s a useful book in general.
