1) I have an example for that. Just an example, it can be anything. That the protagonist is telling a story. Maybe his childhood memory, maybe something happened earlier, or maybe something that is happening now in real time. Or maybe there's a narrator who is telling the protagonist's story.
And in that story, you start to relate with the protagonist, the focus of the story does not have to be that protagonist, but let's say for an example that the protagonist just telling us something is happening that is happening in his colony or in his area. And you will have normal reactions reading it ar first, like it's a normal story
Reactions like "oh, that's ridiculous". Or maybe," shit, protagonist has to be staying in a place where things like this is happening". Or maybe just something normal where the protagonist will be saying what is happening throughout throughout the story.
And after a while, things will start to feel different. Like, "wait a second", that doesn't seem normal now. Or things that felt normal earlier, suddenly you will start to question everything that you thought was normal. And maybe in the end or after a while protagonist will be not what you thought. Protagonist might be something bad. Or just maybe, like, things will start to change. It could be protagonist wasn't just seeing through enough of it and we readers did and realised something is so off about it, and then looking back all the normal things we've read before will start to hit different.
2) Or maybe just a story where You'll feel things are normal and will trust some characters who will just seem like a normal part of the story. And while you are concentrated in another seemingly important part of the story you'll slowly realise the seemingly normal characters you trusted are not that Normal and the Story that seemed to be the main story wasn't main at all. Rather all the things that seemed normal so far as already twisted enough if you fill the missing links. And things will start to go different from that point.
Any of this or something around this, While mostly staying in real world stuff and not going in a fantasy world or something.
