I've been on a disasters and big machines kick recently, and wanted to read some histories on the topic. Most of the stuff I've found has either been about lists of vehicles with pictures (for enthusiasts or kids) or more general histories of like. The industrial revolution. I'd really like to read some more specific histories: failed prototypes, historical cul-de-sacs, big ego clashes, the decisions leading to massive machines like the bagger 288 etc.
My example for this might be Tractor Wars: John Deere, Henry Ford, International Harvester, and the Birth of Modern Agriculture. Would love any suggestions, the weirder the better.
