Hello! We are a family of immigrants that moved to the US around half a year ago. I have a little brother that is 11 yo and currently is in the 6th grade (i guess). He assimilated pretty well, speaks good english and is getting good grades in almost all of his school subjects.

However, the history class is his worst. He didn't know almost anything about the history of the US before we came here. And he is kinda uninterested as well, but still wants to know and understand the context of the class' material to get good grades.

So I am looking for something for him that could lighten up his interest in the American colonization history. Kinda doesn't matter if it is a nonfiction or fiction book, the key factor is to be interesting for 11-12 yo.

If you know some books I could buy for him (anything that I can buy on eBay or Amazon, no matter the price) please let me know 🙏.

My girlfriend’s little cousin had the same struggle when they moved here! The “Who Was?” series absolutely saved the day – they have books on all the major historical figures like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, etc. Super engaging for that age and not dry like textbooks.

Also check out “The Wild Robot” author Peter Brown’s historical stuff, and maybe some of the “I Survived” series books that cover different periods in American history. Kids that age eat those up and they actually learn without realizing it 📚😊

He could read books about the founders lives. He could choose which founders. They would be free on Gutenberg Internet Archive, Libya or at your library.
