I've always been an avid reader, but that's generally been a solitary pursuit except for back when I was getting my degree — long time ago!! I teach, but only one-on-one classes these days, which means being in a more "bookish environment" is rare for me these days. For a number of reasons, I feel like a change and have been actively looking for book clubs, readalongs and whatnot.

I usually read classics, contemporary literature and non-fiction (philosophy and feminist theory mainly, with lots of other seemingly random things included – from mountaineering to biographies). Psychological thrillers are my go-to for palate cleansing. 😏

I'm trying to find a book club where people actually get together on video calls (like whatsapp, meet, whatever) or voice chat (discord, even?) occasionally for longer discussions. I've joined a few read-alongs on Substack and I'm considering Benjamin McEvoy's Patreon, but in both cases the actual discussions happen in a cascade of comments that aren't exactly conducive to ongoing exchanges.

Does anyone know of anything of the sort?? There must be something like this around, surely I'm not the only one looking for this? Am I? 😌 I do enjoy the banter and random chatting on Diacord no problem, but the servers I've found aren't very active, no voice chats, and lots of romance, fantasy and sci-fi (nothing against it, just not really my thing).

    Any ideas?? Thanks!!
