The thing I adored about Frankenstein was how Victor was halfway going insane over a study he loved. I'm personally studying Mathematics, and was at the point where I wanted to quit all my studies as I found this path to be so rusty and commonly used that it seemed too dull. I read this book right at that time, and it made me so whimsical about pure science & math. I find so much will to consist what I am doing right now whenever I read books about the protagonist just going crazy, working day and night, obsessing over this one thing that would make him feel alive.
Does anyone know books with this theme, a frantic main character that goes crazy over just pure studies / classics / old music or just any subject matter that has a deep foundation? It could even be a story about someone obsessing over getting better at an instrument they play! I feel like I love books like that but rarely find any. Thanks for reading!
