Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here 🙂
I’ve realised recently that the books I enjoy most are the ones that completely immerse you in a place and make the world feel alive. I’ve always been really drawn to history and culture, especially seeing how landscapes, traditions, and ways of life shape the people in a story. I’m hoping to find more books like that.
I’m very open when it comes to genre (historical fiction, fantasy, literary fiction, anything really). I don’t mind romance being included, I’d just prefer it not be the main focus. I’m mostly looking for adult fiction rather than YA, just because YA tends to feel a bit cheesy for me personally.
Some settings/themes I’ve especially been interested in lately:
• Middle Eastern / Arabian-inspired settings, especially stories rich in culture, folklore, mythology, or archaeology. I love when the setting feels vivid and alive and you can really feel the world through the people in it
• Sirens or mermaids, especially something with an underwater world or kingdom, or an Atlantis-style fantasy setting. I really like the idea of something beautiful, mysterious, and a bit darker as well
• Medieval settings, more focused on atmosphere and storytelling. I love being able to picture the land, the environment, and the world the characters are living in
That said, I’d absolutely love suggestions outside these exact categories too if anything comes to mind that has a similar immersive feel or strong sense of place and culture. I’m really just looking for books that make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.
