I want to start building a proper Hermann Hesse collection on my bookshelf, but I’m stuck on which editions are actually the best for each book. There are so many options between Penguins, Vintage, special hardcovers, and different translations that it gets confusing fast.
For people who collect Hesse, which editions do you think are the best mix of cover design, print quality, and translation? Do you prefer matching editions for the whole shelf, or do some books have one clearly “best” version even if the set doesn’t match?
Also, are there any editions of Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, or The Glass Bead Game that are considered must haves for collectors?
Would love to see what serious bookshelf people recommend.
