I’ve not read a book for fun in many, many years. I read a lot of fiction as a kid but stopped when I became a teenager. I’m currently working in a pretty serious area and studying for a degree that includes a lot of academic reading, so I struggle to find the motivation to read outside of this. I’ve tried to get into fun, easy reading fiction books again, as I’m desperately trying to reduce my high screen time, but I can’t get past the first 10 pages without getting bored of the characters and story. I’ve also been struggling to find books that are positive and fun but still a good read.

So, I’m pivoting to non-fiction books to try and see if any will catch my attention. I don’t want anything about ‘serious’ or ‘negative’ topics as I want this to be an enjoyable and relaxing time to decompress after a long day or to take my mind off my anxieties. In a similar vein, I don’t want any self-help or introspective books. I’ve always been a person that will read Wikipedia articles and go down an internet rabbit hole about random people, events or topics I know nothing about, so I’m hoping to find books that scratch that same itch. I would be grateful for any good recommendations, thanks.

TL;DR I would like some suggestion for non-fiction books about fun and random topics.

Don’t do Sapiens. Someone will recommend it, I’m sure, but it’s heavily criticized by scholars for being factually flawed. Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries is a favorite of mine.
