I've been trying for years to get back into reading, i smashed through Inferno by Dante with ease, and did the same with White Nights and The Meek One by Dostoyevsky, but anything longer and i just can't bring to. Lovecraft was a good one for me as his stories are short. I enjoyed the story of Brothers Karamazov but its just SO LONG that i get book anxiety and can't get any further in it.
Tried Shakespeare, too many words, too old-english-y. As a kid i would read incessantly (i tackled War and Peace at 10, just for the bragging rights), loved Great Expectations and To Kill A Mockingbird in school. The only "recent" book I've read was Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, which was a masterpiece.
Outside of books, I love Bloodborne and Elden Ring, supernatural horror movies, The Dark Crystal, your bog-standard dark fantasy stuff, so any reccomendations along that vein are also more than welcome!
I want to tackle these larger books, but feel I need to work up to it. Any suggestions?
