I really love those movies like Coherence or Inception that make you rethink your reality. I realized I haven't been reading a lot recently and I want to get back into it, so I need something that will keep me motivated and also think about it often. I don't totally love this new genre of sci fi and fantasy because it feels like the same thing over and over, so I am looking for something a little older but I won't be too picky about that. sorry this is so specific 😭😭

I wouldn’t say it’s like Inception, but it will make you rethink the entire sf genre

You might enjoy A Fire Upon the Deep or The Left Hand of Darkness
Blindsight by Peter Watts (2006)
Necromancer by William Gibson (1984)
Both deal with the concept of consciousness and what it means. The former in terms of encountering an alien intelligence, the latter in terms of shaping human experience through technology.
Have you read Dune, Ted Chiang or Broken Earth?
Rabbits by Terry Miles will at least make you rethink everything you just read
